Every year he would jam his disposal and block the sink drain. As much as I like seeing my extended customer family each year, I would call just before the holiday warning him use the trash can not the disposal to save the owner the cost of a service call. We never did and I always went out. Every year he would have a small container of sauce to take home. The customer has since sold his home and moved. Everyone says plumbers are messy!

Everyone says plumbers are messy!

Absolutely NOT! We clean as we work. First the plumbers and plumber's helpers cover all your belongings with plastic to keep any dust from getting on them, cover your floors and carpeting with drop cloths or plastic as needed. Then as the plumbers are making small messes the plumber's helper is continually cleaning up. At the end of the day your house is at least as clean as when we got there, if not cleaner.

Water Pipe

Water Pipe

Uponor Aqua PEX water pipe. A new polyethylene cross-linked tubing that is easier to install and much less labor intensive. This can save hundreds if not a thousand dollars on a whole house re-pipe. All our plumbers have been trained to work with this material. Although we still like the old school approach and using copper tubing, the new PEX tubing is quieter than copper, last longer than copper, especially when used on a recirculating system, and saves the consumer, you, a substantial amount of money.

To tank or not to tank… so many questions.
Don’t worry We have the answers to all your
hot water needs.

Give us a call so we may discuss your options. We install and repair all makes and models of water heaters. We have over 75 years of experience, so you know we do the job right.

Let’s look your choices.

Tank Type Water Heaters (The most common tank out there)
Replacing a leaking tank for new one of the same types and size can be done quickly. When we come out we can discuss if the old tank was the correct size water heater for your needs. , stop the water from leaking all over the place, drain the old water heater tank, remove it, install the new one, bring everything up to code and test all the connections.
Indirect Fired Water Heater
Let your boiler heat things up. Depending on your boiler system, the lack of venting ability or the lack of gas supply, an indirect fired water heater can work off the heat from your steam or hot water boiler. This is a great option for the new high efficiency boiler systems. Like the tankless system this option can cost more than a traditional water heater, but the recovery is much faster than (makes hot water faster) than a standard tank. connections for leaks then clean up so there is no mess for you to deal with. EASY and FAST.
Tankless Water Heaters
Tankless Water heaters, also called On Demand water heaters or Instantaneous water heaters, do not have a tank to store the heated water. Most of them have a copper fin tube bundle which acts just like the radiator in your car, only in reverse. Although it uses gas faster to heat the water as you use it, there is no real wasted energy (gas) to keep the water hot while no one is asking for it and no cold water being added into the tank of already heated water cooling it down. It takes the same amount of energy (gas or electric) to heat a gallon of water, whether it is instantaneous or over time the real savings are realized by not having to keep 40 or 50 gallons of water or more hot all day and night waiting for it to be used and not keeping a pilot light burning 24 hours a day. There are three issues to be concerned about; gas line size and gas meter size, electrical, and combustion vents when you are installing a tankless water heater where an old tank type water heater was located.

Time to heat things up!

Boilers, thermostats and radiation (Not the bad kind)

Let’s look out what’s out there.
Yesterday’s heat systems were very basic. Fuel costs were low and environmental issues were not a concern. Boy has that changed.
Not much can be done with steam system technology as boiling water has not change other than the fuel. (Coal to oil to gas) Hot water systems have moved to the point of up to 98% efficiency.
Steam can be a mystery to many repair mechanics but as a family of Master plumbers’ knowledge of the quirks and tricks to fix your system has been passed down the generations.
We my know steam but we love the new High-Tec, high efficiently systems
From installation, service and repair we are always keeping up with the latest HE systems.
We use the most updated test equipment to tune your system to save you money and your impact on the environment. High-tech systems require yearly maintenance to keep the system at maximum efficiency and help prevent costly failure.

Do you have a fireplace and would love to have that warm home fire feeling without the smoke and chopping wood?

  • We do! We install gas fire logs.

Tired of running out of propane when grilling?

  • We are too! We install gas BBQ’s

We install, repair and service all residential and light commercial boiler systems. Includes

  • Cast iron in wall and free-standing radiators.
  • Cast iron and copper fin baseboard.
  • Even heated towel bars.
  • Aluminum panel.
  • Radiant floor heat.

Now you have the perfect heat system but don’t ignore the radiation. (Again, not the scary stuff)

The basic steam and hot water boilers are very similar. Both gas and oil fired, they use the time-tested cast-iron heat core. The boiler burns at 80 to 83 percent efficiency. Don’t let the title fool you. They can dress up the basic boiler to fit many applications except steam. Steam heat has not changed in over 100 years. In the end the basic is still the bottom of the energy scale.

Got Gas?
Don’t let anyone fool you…
Size matters!

You need a properly sized pipe and incoming pressure to properly fire and maintain a tankless water heater. If your replacing a standard storage water heater in almost all cases the gas line to the unit is not large enough to supply the gas needed to properly fire the tankless water heater. Also, the gas meter may be small and will not support the new higher gas load. The gas supply and gas meter bar would have to be upgraded to provide the proper operation. Most gas meter sets do not meet the current Con Edison requirements and this upgrade can be costly.

It’s Shocking but we must get electricity involved
An electrical outlet for the electronic ignition not to mention all the sensors and the computer boards. Most cites want a dedicated circuit, meaning one that only the tankless water heater is on. Because it is next to a water source it must be a GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter).

After all that I must Vent! Combustion Gases.
As for all gas fired water heaters, burning gas makes Co2. A tankless water heater venting is not the same as a water storage tank heater.  If you are going to install a new tankless water heater inside, the vent material depending on the manufacture must be made of Stainless Steel or PVC. The material can get expensive and it really adds up on a 2-story home. For this reason, tankless water heater companies now make models that can be installed on an outside wall. These in most cases do not need to be vented up through the roof. Even if you install the new tankless unit in the same spot as the old heater you will still need to change out the vent pipe. There are mixed reviews on tankless water heaters. Depending on the size of the home and hot water demand you may have to install multiple units chained together.

Condensing

Now were talking high-end tech! The core can be cast aluminum or stainless steel. This type of heat system is for GAS fired hot water systems only and cannot be used for steam. HE boilers have an onboard computer using sensors to adjust the fire rate to the current heat needs. This boiler uses the up to 97% of the energy produced by the burning gas to transfer heat to the water. This system is ideal for standard radiators, hydro-air (hot air heat) and radiant floor heat. This boiler is a great domestic hot water maker when connected to an indirect fired water heater. Condensing boilers will save fuel and money, but the equipment installation cost is significantly more. At times the gas supplier and other programs may have rebates available.
