Tips before you call

Heat

We never mind coming out for the small stuff. We like to save money and we bet you do also. We would hate to charge you a service call and labor for a few minutes work. Here are some things to check before you call.

  • 1All Boilers
The most common no heat call we find is the switch is shut off. Many homes have two ways of shutting off the boiler. A switch at the top of the stairs and one at or near the boiler. Make the power is on. If you flip the switch on and the boiler starts, you just saved money. If nothing happens CALL. We will have to come out to trouble shoot the issue.
  • 2Steam Boiler
Is there water in the boiler? No water will cause the low water cut-off to shut the boiler off. Add water slowly to the boiler until the gag glass is two-thirds full. Any other issue CALL!

Water

Your hosting a full out water flood anywhere in your home. What would you do???
You will need a Plumber, but you can mitigate your damage by shutting off the main water valve.

  • 1Locate were the main water main valve is located. Usual next to the water meter
  • 2Turn the valve off. This should stop all incoming water from entering the building.

If you have never seen or know were the main water valve is located. Many older homes have old valves that have not been operated in years. You may find the main valve needs service or replacement. we can schedule a service call to inspect and test for proper operation.

This seem like a frivolous expense but, it’s much better idea to find out the location, assess the condition and how to operate the main valve before a flood occurs.

While we are on the topic of flooding, have you shut off and drained your outside hose connections for the winter? A frozen winter wonderland of spraying water may be pretty, the damage and cost to repair the couse is not so nice.

  • 1If you have frost free water draw offs all you must do is remove the hose and or any other connect to the valve. Frost free draw-offs will automatedly drain the remaining water that could freeze and burst.
  • 2Not a frost free. Shut off the inside the house draw-off service valve. Remove the hose and turn on the faucet to allow the water to drain. Some outside water lines have multiple valve and a drain plug in the basement. Make sure all are left open for the winter. If for some reason the water will not stop, Call us for service. 914-723-3191
